BYRON
The Dawn to Dusk Series is about the flow of time. The images are about distinct memories—captured moments—which, as they become embedded in my history, begin to alter. The clarity that exists in the moment softens and transforms: becoming obscured, heightened, poetic, ephemeral, or as lucid as a dream.
I never know precisely where I am going when I begin, choosing only the starting point. I capture a specific moment precisely, mechanically, with my camera. I then distance myself from this moment as hours, days or weeks of work –layers of history– accumulate by hand upon each photograph. Wax, graphite, charcoal and oil paint aggregate in thin layers and are scraped away as I quietly search for the balance of what has past and what exists today.
